The MSc in Management (Business) is designed for people who do not have an undergraduate degree in management or business, but who would like to have a thorough preparation for a career in management.

You'll be introduced to the core disciplines of business such as accounting, economics, HRM and marketing, while developing the range of skills necessary to operate successfully in a business environment. These include analytical, technical, teamworking, presentation, report writing and communication skills.

You'll gain applied knowledge through real work with assigned industry clients and by the end of the programme, you will have developed into a strong and confident business professional.

 

 

The programme begins with an introduction to the key business disciplines. Accounting for Business Decision Making provides students with an introduction to and overview of financial and management accounting, focusing on the techniques of financial statement analysis and informed investment decision making for real life companies. The Economics module will further the students' understanding of economic principles and the application of economics to the business environment. People Management & Development aims to give future managers and personnel specialists the essential knowledge and understanding of HRM, which will then be developed and extended in the other cognate modules such as Consulting Skills, which focuses on developing conceptual understanding and skill proficiency for practising consulting. In Finance, students are introduced to the key financial issues faced by modern-day financial managers of corporations equipping them with conceptual and analytical skills necessary to make financial decisions, while the Marketing module enables students to gain an understanding of the major decisions faced by marketing managers in their efforts to balance the organisation's objectives against the needs and opportunities in the global marketplace.

In Semester Two, we address some of the importance changes in the business environment today. Knowledge and understanding of the key issues in the management of technology has become an integral part of managing a business. The Technology Management module helps participants to develop a clear understanding of technology’s role as a driver of change and increased productivity in business and as an enabler of business model evolution and increased business value. The Data Analytics & Visualisation module aims to equip learners with a variety of techniques and the knowledge of a variety of tools and statistical techniques to make sense of the emergence and exponential growth of big data. Additionally, students will analyse and select the most appropriate business modelling tool or technique for problem situations in the Business Process Innovation module.

The unique and highly regarded Next Generation Management module provides students with the opportunity to develop the competencies required for successful management and leadership careers. It focuses on four key themes: personal and career development; research skills; global and societal awareness; and digital media and communication. Particular emphasis is placed on reflective and critical thinking, collaborating with people, creating and sharing knowledge and dealing with complexity. 

Both the Dissertation and Practicum affords students opportunity to exercise their creative, questioning, analytic, and writing skills in a focused and practical manner. Whereas the dissertation is a critical evaluation of a research question primarily from an academic perspective, the practicum is intended to expose the student to an analysis of a real-world problem. While their focus is different (primarily academic or applied) they must each contain a substantial piece of primary research and students are expected to put into practice the theoretical materials covered in earlier modules.

 

Coupled with their primary degree, graduates of the MSc in Management (Business) are members of an exclusive group of multi-disciplinary graduates. This is a significant differentiator in the increasingly competitive postgraduate employment market. 

Of those graduates who we can track, 97% are currently in employment in a wide variety of industries and functions by leading indigenous and international organisations including eBay, IBM, Goldman Sachs, Google, Kerry Foods, Unicredit and GAM Fund Management.  

Graduates of this programme (who would be holder of non-business undergraduate degrees on entry) can earn up to 8 exemptions, which is nearly half of the total required exams, for the CIMA qualification, across certificate, operational, managerial and strategic levels.
