Professor Regina Connolly is Deputy Vice-President for Research & Innovation at Dublin City University. In her undergraduate degree she received the Kellogg Award for outstanding dissertation and in 1997 was awarded an MSc degree with distinction. She received her PhD in Information Systems from Trinity College, Dublin. She was an Invited Visiting Professor at Oxford University in 2009-2010 and is Professor Invité at H.E.C European Business School, Paris and at the University of Angers, France. Her guest lecturer appointments include the University of Cremona, Italy; the Mediterranean University of Science and Technology, Valencia, Spain; the University of Mostar, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Trinity College, Dublin. Her external PhD examiner appointments include the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, University College Cork, and NUI Galway and she has also acted as external examiner for MIS programmes at Trinity College Dublin and at University College Cork.
She has served on the expert eCommerce advisory group for Dublin Chamber of Commerce, which has advised national government on eCommerce strategic planning. A regular speaker both in Ireland and internationally, she has presented on Connected Health Business Models at the European Parliament. In 2014 she was appointed by the European Foundation for Management Development to their EPAS Business School accreditation reviewer panel. Professor Connolly is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Internet Commerce. She is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Information Systems; Senior Editor of Information Systems Management; and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Advanced Decision Sciences. Recently, she was also appointed as Associate Editor of the Journal of Electronic Commerce in Organizations. She also acts as an expert evaluator for the European Commission.
Her research work is highly regarded and has been recognised with several international awards and distinctions including the Villanova University Research Excellence Award of Merit and Government Information Quarterly's Inaugral Best Research Paper Award, as well as multiple Best Paper Awards. Her research papers have been published in top ranked international journals including Journal of Information Technology, European Journal of Information Systems, Government Information Quarterly, Information Polity and Information Systems Management.
She has significant expertise in healthcare technology impact assessment as well as eHealth business model development and is a Lead Investigator in several international Ambient Healthcare Technology research projects that were awarded over €8.43 million in funding from the European Commission in 2014. She is also a lead investigator in a pre-commercial health technology procurement proposal that was was awarded over €5.1 million in European funding in 2015. In 2016, the H2020 public health research project (Meaningful Integration of Health Data and Systems) which she co-leads with Ulster University was awarded €3.1 million in European funding. In addition, she is a lead participant in a recently successful EPA-funded research project.
In 2008, Professor Connolly was appointed by the Minister for Health and Children to the Medical Council of Ireland. In 2012, she was appointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Governors of the National Orthopaedic Hospital of Ireland, Clontarf.
