P.J. Byrne is Professor of Management (Operations/Supply Chain) in Dublin City University Business School and former head of the Management Group in the school (2012 - 2015). Prior to this he worked as a Senior Research Fellow in the Enterprise Research Centre in the University of Limerick.
Prof. Byrne led the development of DCU's BSc in Aviation Management (with pilot studies) in 2008 and the MSc in Aviation Leadership in 2014. He chaired both programmes from development until September 2016. He has sat on a number of external programme accreditation panels across a range of Irish Higher Level Educational Institutes and is presently acting as external examiner for academic programmes in City University, Hong Kong and University College Cork.
Prof. Byrne has an extensive track record in industrial based research and is a founding member of the Modelling and Simulation Research Group in DCUBS and the Dublin Aviation Institute, a joint venture between DCU and the Dublin Airport Authority. He is currently a Principal Investigator for a number of national and international research projects and has been successful, with his research team in attracting significant research funds, primarily in the area of discrete event simulation and its application in manufacturing, services and healthcare process improvement.
Prof. Byrne's research interests include supply chain design, analysis and optimization, cloud based simulation, discrete event simulation, industrial applications of simulation modeling for the manufacturing and services sectors and business process optimisation.
Prof. Byrne has successfully supervised 8 research students to completion (6 PhDs and 2 Research Masters).
