MBA Awards 2017
Congratulations to the DCU Executive MBA programme participants who graduated from the programme on Saturday the 4th of November 2017. On the day, two students were presented with awards for their achievements.
Plunkett Tormay, Head of Finance at DCU Trust received the “MBA-Based Learning” Student of the Year 2017 award, presented to him by Sinead Heneghan, CEO of Irish Institute of Training and Development.
Commenting on the award, Mr Tormay said, “Receiving this award meant so much to me given the high esteem I hold my fellow MBA classmates and DCU faculty in. Our class had a truly collaborative spirit and I genuinely feel I’m receiving it on behalf of the entire class, each of whom would be happy to help another.”
Sinead Heneghan, CEO of the IITD also said “IITD is delighted to present the MBA-Based Learner of the Year Award, to recognise the individual who, in the experience of their peers, made the most significant contribution to peer support and made a substantial impact on the learning experience of the group through developing and strengthening their participation in wider project activity and collaboration. To inspire your fellow peers is a very special legacy for any learner and we are thrilled to recognise Plunkett’s outstanding talents in this arena.”

Fellow graduate, David Nulty also received the Irish Rail ‘Ray Pierce Memorial’ Award. This award was presented by Martina Kenny, HR Executive of Irish Rail who highlighted the unique relationship of Irish Rail and DCU.
“Ray championed further education and continued learning during his working life with Irish Rail/Iarnród Éireann and as a former student of DCU, it is felt that this award is a fitting tribute to his memory. As a company, we have a long association with DCU and are very happy to be associated with this award.”
Upon receiving the award, Mr Nulty said, “The DCU Executive MBA brought together a diverse group of individuals with a wealth of professional and academic acumen which created a perfect opportunity to gain much knowledge and learning. The MBA has provided me with a broader perspective of business that will no doubt stand to me throughout the rest of my career. But as important, if not more, the MBA gave me the opportunity to reflect on my experience and values and to determine what type of leader I am and aspire to be. For anyone considering taking the on an MBA, go for it. You won’t regret it, it will take a lot of hard work and commitment but the experience is well worth the effort!”
