Discover the influence of technology, big data, and data analytics on business decision-making and operations. In this module, you’ll explore the digitalisation of aviation operations and gain insights into the principles of data analytics.
The primary goal of this module is to familiarise you with the key digital technologies utilised in the aviation industry, as well as the essential tools and techniques for leveraging data analytics in support of strategic business decisions.
You will delve into the world of digitalisation initiatives, such as Blockchain, 5G, SWIM, and Augmented Reality, and understand their transformative impact on the aviation sector. Moreover, you will acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and manipulate data using cutting-edge tools, fostering a foundational understanding of data management that is imperative in today’s modern organisations.
What Can You Expect From This Module?
On successful completion of this module students will be well placed to:
- Explain the key concepts of big data and data analytics, the business case for data analytics, and how it interacts with
aviation operations and strategies - Describe the types of analytical tools and statistical modelling techniques available to analyse business data and assess their
suitability for different types of business problems - Explain what the digital transformation is, and how the digitalisation of services and products has evolved within the aviation industry
- Critically evaluate different digitalisation options, their push and pull factors as well as their value for the industry

General Entry Requirements
For admission to the Graduate Certificate in Aviation Sustainability, Leadership and Innovation candidates must hold one of the following:
- A 2.1 Honours degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent international qualification along with 3 years of work experience in the aviation industry
- An equivalent professional qualification (ATCO, CPL) along with 3 years of work experience in the aviation industry.
- 5 years’ relevant work experience in the aviation industry may be considered
Things to note:
- Applicants who have achieved a 2.2 Honours degree may still obtain a place. This will depend on availability of places and on obtaining high grades in relevant modules on their undergraduate programme.
- Recent graduates with less than 3 years’ relevant work experience in the aviation industry, or with work experience in a different industry, who have the equivalent of a first class Honours degree may be considered.
- International candidates who are non-native speakers of English must satisfy the University of their competency in the English language. More information about English language requirements for DCU Business School can be found here.
- Applicants who require a study visa for the purposes of studying at DCU, are advised to apply as early as possible. If you need a study visa and are a Non EU student, you are not eligible to apply for part time programmes as study visas are only granted for full time programmes.
