course overview
The BA in Global Business combines a broad understanding of international business with intercultural experience and work placements. This degree is unique as you’ll have the chance to participate in two work placements and earn two business degrees in two countries.
In your four years, you’ll gain the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of business in a global context. You’ll spend your first two years in DCU, which includes a work placement in Ireland, and then your final two years in the USA.
There is now a common entry to Global Business USA (DC116), after which students will indicate a preference to study at Northeastern University in Boston or the University of San Diego, California. Both universities offer a double degree programme with DCU and support to undertake a work placement in the US as part of the study programme.
Note:
Northeastern University is located in Boston, Massachusetts. The city is known as an educational hub, along with finance and high-technology research. The university has enrollment of approximately 21,000 students, with approximately 20% of those being international students. Northeastern in AACSB accredited.
After year 1 of the programme at DCU, and on the basis of student preferences and their relative ranking within the class (based on year 1 grades) – the allocation of places available for either University of San Diego or Northeastern University will be determined.
Students arrange their own accommodation, travel and insurance costs for their 2 years abroad.
Why Do This Course?
This degree is the only one of its kind in Ireland. You’ll spend the first two years in DCU, including a work placement, and the final two years in the relevant partner institution abroad, where you study through that country’s language and university system, and do a second work placement.
In your first two years, you’ll gain an understanding of the principles of business by studying subjects such as accounting, finance, economics and marketing. You’ll also study North American history, politics and business practice, and also have the option to study a second language.
On transferring to the partner institution in Year Three, you will focus on international business and in Year Four, you have the opportunity to specialise in a variety of business areas.
You’ll graduate with two qualifications—the BA in Global Business from DCU, and a BSc in International Business from Northeastern University or University of San Diego (USA).
