Industry Focused Modules
Operations and Process Management for Resilience
This module focuses on developing strategies for resilient operations and process management. Students will explore techniques to enhance organisational adaptability, mitigate risks, and ensure continuity during disruptions. Key topics include process optimisation, supply chain resilience, crisis management, and the integration of technology to strengthen operational efficiency and long-term sustainability.
Business Process Innovation
This module develops an understanding of process improvement and innovation and the relationship business modelling plays in such changes. Process change can be incremental (continuous) or radical, with both approaches requiring a structured approach for their successful implementation. The main elements of this framework includes: process investigation, process analysis, process design and process implementation. This module analyses process change, the frameworks utilised for process change and the tools and techniques used for both process analysis and improvement.
Simulation for Decision Making
This module focuses on the application of discrete event simulation modelling to operational problems at the strategic, tactical and operational organisational levels. Students will learn and appreciate the use of simulation in industry, through gaining practical experience in problem solving through the utilisation of a commercial simulation software package specifically towards supporting the mapping and modelling of business processes.
Operations Strategy
Operations Strategy inextricably connects an organisations business strategy and its operations management. Whereas operations management is primarily focused on the near to medium term, operations strategy is concerned with shaping the long-term capabilities of an organisation in the course of designing, producing and distributing products and services to its customers. This module critically exams the impact and role of operations strategy in relation to an organisations overall competitiveness.
Digital Supply Chain Innovation
This module explores the integration of digital technologies in supply chain management, focusing on innovations like AI, blockchain, IoT, and big data. Students will analyse how these technologies optimise operations, enhance transparency, and improve decision-making. Emphasis is placed on developing strategies to drive efficiency, agility, and competitiveness in modern supply chains.
Sustainable Transport and Logistics
This module covers the broad area of sustainability in transport and logistics, focusing on environmental, economic, and social impacts. It explores strategies for reducing carbon emissions, optimising resource use, and integrating sustainable practices within the transport and logistics sectors to create efficient, eco-friendly, and socially responsible systems.
Career Transitions and Success
This module helps students navigate career transitions by developing skills for successful job changes, career advancement, and professional growth. Topics include self-assessment, personal branding, networking strategies, and interview techniques. Emphasis is placed on adapting to new roles, managing challenges, and building a resilient mindset for sustained career success.
