Why Do This Course?
There is a growing demand globally for graduates of an MSc in Operations and Supply Chain Management as supply chains are becoming more disrupted and increasingly complex due to challenges related to geopolitical events (e.g., Brexit, the Ukraine war, energy pricing, and the growing tensions between Iran and the USA). Consequently, organisations worldwide are making sustained efforts to build more resilient, agile, and adaptable operations and supply chains. In addition, there is a strong shift towards more sustainable operations and supply chains aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in response to the climate change crisis.
At the same time, the rapid adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced analytics, automation, and digital technologies is transforming how organisations design, manage, and optimise their operations and supply chains. Employers are therefore increasingly seeking graduates who combine strong operations and supply chain management expertise with emerging AI skillsets, including data-driven decision-making, predictive analytics, AI-enabled planning, and the effective use of intelligent decision-support tools. These trends are contributing to a growing global jobs market and increasing demand for graduates with the technical, analytical, and strategic capabilities required to lead the next generation of operations and supply chain management.
According to Telling (2023) [1]:
Vacancies for Supply Chain managers across UK have risen by 36% since 2019
Demand for supply chain managers in the USA for the first 2 months of 2023 is 54% higher than during the same period in 2019
Given the increased disruption and instability, the importance of predictive supply chain analysis at boardroom level has increased
Investment in supply chain resiliency has increased, there is a crunch in available talent and people with relevant supply chain expertise have come under pressure
The supply chain itself is evolving with the latest tools provided by Industry 4.0 and Digital Supply Chain [2]. Specialist skills and knowledge are required to address emerging challenges such as digitisation, predictive analytics and sustainability, towards modernising and managing such highly complex supply chains [3].
This MSc has been developed with this growing demand, technical advancements and sustainability in mind, and has been designed to meet the future needs of operations and supply chain managers internationally.
