DCU Students Win Top Honours at National Road Safety Reimagined Challenge

Dublin City University students have been recognised at a national level for their innovative approach to road safety awareness, securing multiple awards at the prestigious Road Safety Reimagined initiative.

Delivered as part of a final-year MInT module on AI and Leading Responsible Innovation, co-taught by faculty members Peter and colleagues at DCU Business School, this year’s programme introduced a Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) component. The initiative invited students to engage directly with real-world societal challenges, culminating in participation in the national competition supported by An Garda Síochána and sponsored by ESB.

Students were tasked with developing impactful poster campaigns addressing the dangers of speeding, with a focus on influencing positive behavioural change among drivers. The competition brought together participants from multiple universities across Ireland.

The showcase and awards ceremony took place at University of Limerick, where DCU students delivered an outstanding performance. The DCU team was awarded both the Overall DCU Winner Award and the Best Concept Award, highlighting the strength of their creative and socially impactful approach.

On the day, students had the opportunity to engage with key stakeholders in road safety and public policy, including Catharina Gunne, Assistant Commissioner for Roads Policing and Community Engagement, and Shane Kilcommins, President of the University of Limerick. They also met with senior leadership from ESB and participated in press engagements surrounding the event.

The team was awarded a prize of €1,000 in recognition of their achievement.

This success reflects DCU Business School’s continued commitment to embedding responsible innovation, societal impact, and experiential learning into its curriculum, equipping students to address complex challenges with creativity and purpose.
