My Experience of DCU Business School and the MSc in Management (Digital Marketing)
Sarah Finn, a recent graduate from the MSc in Management (Digital Marketing) Programme in DCU Business School tells us of her year.
After graduating from History & Political Science from TCD in 2011, I spent three months volunteering in Kolkata, India. From India, I travelled to Australia where I worked for Amnesty International and Bupa Health Insurance. It was in these roles that gave me the drive and interest in digital media, and in particular its role in business process innovation.
On returning to Ireland DCU Business School was a natural choice for my Masters. As a leading Irish University in business and technology studies, DCU Business School pioneered the first one year Masters in Digital Marketing. The Universities reputation for contemporary curriculum and practical course work was key in my decision to enroll in the Masters Programme.
The MSc in Management (Digital Marketing) gave me invaluable practical working experience. In a field that very often demands 2+ years experience for graduate positions, DCU Business School’s practical methodology to course work allowed me to strengthen my client facing experience within the digital marketing sphere.
I am now working with Accenture as aManagement Consultant. The practical nature of the course work in addition to the strong teamworking skills they facilitated, were central in securing my position with Accenture. As an undergraduate of an History & Political Science, I had little experience in working on group projects. The digital marketing projects I worked on throughout my time in DCU gave me this experience, as well as allowing to strengthen my core skills in Digital business.
Digital Media is effecting every single industry, from sectors as varied as Financial services to Resources and Utilities. Wherever your interest lies, having both the skill and the understanding to implement digital solutions is an invaluable skill to any organisation. I would definitely recommend to people considering doing this course to make the most out of the Next Generation Management (NGM) module as part of the masters to fine tune your skill set and drive your career in the direction you want.
