DCU Alumni Driving National Change Through Hygiene Hub
DCU graduates Sorcha Killian (Global Business) and Ciara Dalton (Law) are co-founders of Hygiene Hub, which this year celebrates its 5th anniversary.
The organisation now supports 150 community partners and reaches more than 20,000 people every quarter, providing essential hygiene products and raising awareness of hygiene as a human right.
From 8–14 September, Hygiene Hub will host National Hygiene Week, including the release of a new documentary on the impact of hygiene poverty in Ireland, funded by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission.
Hygiene Hub was also recently selected as one of only nine initiatives to receive support through the Pilot Place-Based Philanthropy Projects from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht. This project will establish and sustain additional Hygiene Hubs in areas of high deprivation, expanding access to vital products and strengthening education and community partnerships.
As Hygiene Hub enters its next chapter, they are focused on growing the network of community hubs, expanding the schools programme to reach even more young people, and strengthening their policy work to ensure hygiene poverty is tackled at a national level.
