For this event, we will be joined by Madlen Sobkowiak outlined below, who will discuss drivers and current practices around business measurements and disclosures on biodiversity.
Currently, Madlen is a Research Fellow in Accounting at the Birmingham Business School, having just recently obtained her PhD in Social and Environmental Accounting at the same school. As part of her fellowship, Madlen is working on the Seafood Business for Ocean Stewardship (SeaBOS) initiative—an international science-business collaboration bringing together ten of the largest global seafood production companies to lead a global transformation towards sustainable seafood production practices and a healthy ocean.
Besides the fellowship position, Madlen’s research is focused around a broad range of social and environmental accounting topics, particularly around biodiversity accounting and sustainability performance measurement issues. Her PhD aimed to better understand the construction process of UK biodiversity indicators and their influence on organisational decision-making and action.
Her work has been presented at numerous prestigious national and international conferences and has been published in the Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal. Furthermore, her work has been awarded various prizes and scholarships, such as the Birmingham Business School Doctoral Scholarship, the Universitas 21 Research Exchange Scholarship and various best paper/presentation awards at conferences.
This event is the fifteenth week of a 17-part series taking place every Wednesday until the 7th of April 2021. Click here for more information about the SDG4B series.
