From Technology to Business Analysis: My Journey from India to Ireland
Moving to Ireland was a significant step in both my personal and professional journey. Before coming to Ireland, I worked for nearly three years at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in India, supporting the Marks & Spencer e-commerce programme. This experience provided me with a strong technical foundation and valuable exposure to enterprise systems, business processes and collaboration between technical and business teams.
As my career progressed, I realised that I wanted to broaden my knowledge beyond the technical side and gain a deeper understanding of how businesses operate, make decisions and manage change. My goal was to transition into a Business Analysis career, which led me to pursue an MSc in Business Management at Dublin City University.
I chose DCU because the programme offered a blend of business and analytical modules that aligned with my career aspirations. One of the highlights was the Practicum module, which gave me the opportunity to work with an Irish organisation on a real business challenge. This experience provided valuable exposure to the Irish business environment and helped me apply classroom learning to a practical setting.
Breaking into the Irish job market was not immediate. Transitioning from a technical background into Business Analysis while adapting to a new country and job market required patience, persistence and continuous learning. After completing my final semester, I actively began applying for roles aligned with my career goals. Over the course of my job search, I submitted more than 200 applications and faced many rejections. At times, this was discouraging, especially when opportunities did not progress beyond the application stage. However, one thing remained constant: consistency. I continued refining my CV, attending networking events, building professional connections and improving my skills.
During my time at DCU, I attended workshops, career fairs and networking events, as well as industry events I discovered through LinkedIn and recommendations from friends. These experiences helped me better understand the Irish job market and build relationships with professionals across different industries.
That persistence eventually led me to my current role as a Business Analyst at Roadstone, where I am involved in business and technology transformation initiatives, including process analysis, system migration, testing and process automation.
For students currently navigating a challenging job market, my advice is to stay focused on the career you truly want, continue building relevant skills and actively connect with people beyond the classroom. The journey may take longer than expected, but persistence, consistency and resilience can open opportunities when you least expect them.
