Mixing Business with Badminton
International Badminton player and Final Year student Sara Boyle, BA Business Studies, tells us about her experience studying Business at DCU Business School:
I chose Business Studies in DCU because I am interested in the business sector and I wanted something with a broad scope. I always enjoyed studying maths at school so I decided to study something with a financial angle. I like the broad base of Business Studies and I felt it would give me the opportunity to specialise more in the future.
DCU has a great reputation as a university that promotes sports and that appealed to me when I was considering courses. The support I have got here has been invaluable for my badminton career. I could be away two or three times a month playing badminton and I train Monday to Friday, morning and evening. I’ve been able to split my final year into two years and DCU accommodating this was a huge benefit for me. It means that the load is reduced in my final year and I can concentrate on my badminton career.
There are different workshops around nutrition, well-being, time-management etc which I’ve been able to avail of and which have been really beneficial to me both for my sports career and also for managing my studies.
I would definitely recommend Business Studies in DCU. I’ve enjoyed the course and there were a lot of modules I found really interesting. The social side of the degree course has been great – I’ve made a lot of friends here. Outside of Business Studies there is a big focus on sports here in DCU, and I have really benefited from that too.
