The Graduate Certificate in Aviation Sustainability, Leadership, and Innovation (ASLI) is aimed at developing practitioners in the aviation management space to enable them to lead sustainably, innovate and understand the regulatory environment in their organisations and beyond.
This progamme comprises four stand-alone microcredentials, each worth 7.5 credits, which can be taken individually or as a block to achieve the Graduate Certificate. It has also been designed to be complementary to the MSc in Aviation Leadership, whereby students can continue their studies to achieve the MSc degree.

Module Description:
Leadership for Aviation Managers
The aviation industry is highly complex and subject to constant change. In order to address future challenges, managers require a thorough understanding of issues such as change management and organisational culture and possess the necessary communication and leadership skills to execute strategies to ensure success for their organisations in this challenging environment. This module develops the student understanding of the principles of leadership and management, improves communication skills and allows students the opportunity to engage with senior members of the aviation industry with experience in change management and aviation education.
This module aims to develop the student understanding of leadership principles and enhance the students’ capacity to think strategically and better understand the organisational and leadership issues.
What can you expect from this module?
Having completed this module students will be well placed to:
- – Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and characteristics of the aviation environment.
- – Evaluate leadership and management performance in real world aviation case scenarios.
- – Critically assess the role of leadership strategies in developing and enhancing a safety culture including, structure and reporting systems in aviation.
- – Recognise the role played by management in communications across the breath of the aviation sector, from stakeholder presentations, through internal staff briefings to crisis communications.
- – Take responsibility for research produced, including, efficient time management, working to set deadlines and targets, demonstrating self-discipline, creative thinking and critical reflections of their own performance.
