MSc Management Strategy – Oscar Dominiquez, Marketing & Operations Manager, Tucos Ltd.
Doing the MSSM programme was an incredible experience that helped me to improve in three key areas: personality development, to build confidence, and to prepare myself for the working world. This transformation in my persona was the result of a mix of different elements that the course offered, such as a rich variety of modules that prepared me not only to perform as an excellent professional for to overcome the challenges that business are facing in a post-COVID-19 era, but to understand who I am, what are my strengths and weaknesses and work around them to construct a stronger version of myself.
In terms of personality development, one of the modules that helped me the most was NGM. Through the four themes, CPD, digital, research and business and society, I undertook several activities such as personality tests that helped me to define what are my career drivers, my leadership and learning style; as well, the business and society theme was a fantastic opportunity for me to understand how important is for new generation managers to develop sustainable business that aim to contribute positively to society, creating shared value.
The participation in different challenges, hackathons and projects for real organisations was a key factor that built confidence in my persona. Furthermore, the MSSM programme was a highly multicultural programme. Having the opportunity to work alongside students from different countries, with different mindset and cultures is something that I appreciate and will bring with me to build interdisciplinary effective teams in my future roles as a manager. Besides, the participation in challenges where I worked with students from other prestigious universities around the world, gave me the confidence to lead global teams and to work proactively in the ideation of sustainable solutions for real problems through critical thinking. Through my journey in this programme I defined my career path as consultant. Through DCU’s solid network with renowned institutions and organisations, I had the opportunity to practice as a consultant, working with real companies in real cases to give advice on how to improve their strategy.
Finally, this programme was the right platform to prepare myself as competitive manager in a digital and globally connected working world. The programme was intense, challenging and demanding, requiring skills to coordinate teams in a remote fashion, to multitask and to manage times with accuracy, ensuring that the quality of each assignment was highly professional and innovative. Currently, I work as marketing and operation manager for a restaurant chain and independent consultant, and so far, my journey in DCU has transformed my approach to work, making it more flexible, resilient to crises and better for the user through the application of design.
This is a programme that I definitely recommend to those that want to become top managers of leading organisations in the digital era.
