SRAE Award & Scholarship for DCU PhD Student Gavin Brown
Congratulations to Gavin Brown who was just awarded Best PhD Student Paper at the prestigious Society of Risk Analysis – Europe Conference 2019.
The conference “Systemic Risks: From Natural Hazards to Cyber Risks” was held in Potsdam, Germany, on June 24th – 26th.
Gavin’s paper, written with his supervisors Professor Caroline McMullan and Dr Ann Largey, is titled “A Post-Grenfell Analysis: Exploring household preparedness and fire safety behaviour in Irish apartments”.
The paper examines how residents rate the level of risk posed by an apartment fire; the level of fire safety awareness and preparedness within residential apartments; and determines the factors which motivate apartment residents to adopt fire safety measures in their homes by applying an extended Protection Motivation Theory model.
Gavin was presented with his certificate and scholarship by the President of the SRA, Professor Frederic Bouder.
