Dr Cathal Guiomard
I am a Lecturer in Aviation Management at DCU Business School. I carry out research on economic regulation and aviation. I am a member of the organising and the advisory boards of the European Aviation Conference (EAC). Some years ago I published ‘The Irish Disease and How to Cure It’, an analysis of shortcomings in Irish economic policy. I tweet at @Cataldo Rex, an easier name to remember, pronounce and spell than the Irish & Breton names my parents gave me.
Before coming to DCU, I worked in aviation regulation, leading the Commission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) until 2014. This is an agency that sets price caps on Dublin airport and on the Irish ATC provider, the Irish Aviation Authority, carries out certain licensing and consumer protection functions and oversees the EU’s airport slot control regime in Ireland.
