Dr Eugene Hickland is an Assistant Professor of Employee Relations and Human Resource Management at Dublin City University Business School. He was awarded a PhD in the area of Employment Regulation and Employee Voice from National University of Ireland, Galway. He holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations from Keele University and a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Modern History from Ulster University. He has previously held a lectureship (Above the Bar) in the School of Business and Economics at NUI Galway where he held positions of Vice Dean for Research and Programme Director for the fulltime MSc in Human Resource Management. He has previously worked at managerial and people management levels in Irish and Multinational companies in Ireland for many years.
Eugene’s research interests include; workplace innovations, industrial democracy, employee voice, trade union organisations and employment regulation. He has published in top level peer review journals including; Human Relations, Work, Employment and Society, Economic and Industrial Democracy, European Journal of Industrial Relations and International Journal of Human Resource Management. Eugene has also published a number of book chapters and presented his research at a wide range of national and international conferences. He has been successful in obtaining funding for his research from the Irish Research Council and the European Commission.
