Henrique M. Barros is an Assistant Professor in Innovation at DCU Business School. He earned his PhD in Business Studies from the University of Warwick (UK) and has also trained at Harvard Business School (in both Entrepreneurship and Participant-Centred Learning).
Henrique’s research interests lie in how firms capture value from innovation (with a particular interest in intellectual property) and in the relationship between innovation and corporate strategy. His research has appeared in distinguished academic journals such as Research Policy, Technovation and the Journal of Technology Transfer, and he has been a recipient of awards at conferences held by the European Academy of Management, the International Association for Management of Technology (European chapter – EuroMOT) and the Brazilian Academy of Management.
Prior to joining DCU Business School in 2021, Henrique served as researcher/ lecturer, programme director, and head of department in Higher Education Institutions in Brazil. Before starting his academic career, he has also worked as a patent examiner at the Brazilian Patents and Trademarks Office (aka INPI) as well as a consultant on strategic management of innovation. More recently (2016-2021), he acted as an intellectual property consultant to a Cambridge (UK)-based IP firm. Henrique has successfully supervised 22 research students to completion (2 PhDs and 20 Research Masters) as well as 34 projects of undergraduate and MBA students. Currently, Henrique sits on the scientific committees of ANPAD and ANGRAD, which are two prominent academic associations in management in Brazil. He also serves as an ad hoc consultant to the Research Support Foundation of the State of São Paulo (FAPESP) and as a reviewer to a number of scientific outlets.
