Barbara Flood is Full Professor of Accounting at DCU Business School. She completed a BA in Accounting and Finance at DCU, a Master of Accounting at UCD and her PhD at Loughborough University. She is also a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland, having completed her professional training with KPMG.
Barbara’s principal research focuses on students’ learning experiences in higher education and in the professional accounting context. She has published in many international peer-reviewed journals including: Journal of Business Ethics; Accounting Forum; Accounting Education; Assessment & Evaluation in Higher Education. Along with co-authors, Prof. Alan Sangster and Prof. Greg Stoner, she was awarded the 2021 TLC Outstanding Accounting Education Research Award by the American Accounting Association. She is currently Joint Editor of Accounting Education and she is a member of the Executive Committee of BAFA’s Accounting Education Special Interest Group.
She has held many leadership roles in DCU Business School over the years. She has been Head of Accounting (2007-2013), Deputy Dean of the School (2013-2019) and served as Acting Executive Dean for a 6-month period (2020-2021).
Barbara maintains strong professional engagement. She is a member of the Audit Committee of the Department of Justice, and she is on a number of external advisory groups.
