Why I chose the Professional Diploma in Accounting in DCU
Ciara Reilly, Audit Senior in Deloitte and PDA Alumni gives us her view on why she chose the course and what she got out of it.
Before starting the Professional Diploma in Accounting (PDA) Programme, I studied Law in Trinity College Dublin. I was interested in pursuing a career in Accountancy and I chose to do the PDA in order to get exemptions from the CAP1 exams prior to starting work with Deloitte.
In particular, I chose DCU Business School as the course has a great reputation as a conversion course for non accounting/business graduates.
I enjoyed the course very much, the class size was relatively small and very interactive. The DCU Business School Lecturers were very approachable and helpful. Upon graduation the course provided me with my required exemptions from CAP1 and also provided me with a strong starting point for my CAP2 and even my FAE exams with Chartered Accountants Ireland.
I am now an Audit Senior in Deloitte Ireland. I passed my subsequent exams on first attempt, while working in Deloitte and I feel that this is partially attributable to the good accounting knowledge and understanding I developed on the PDA Programme.
For those considering studying on the PDA, I would say that it is a very good course for non accounting graduates. It is quite challenging at times but if you keep up with the work and put an effort into it, the learning will stand to you for your future accounting exams and career!
