Lucas Spicer’s Journey
This testimonial is from Lucas Spicer, an International Business student at DCU Business School, sharing his experience before leaving for his exchange in France. Lucas provides insight into the challenges he faced, the growth he experienced, and the valuable skills and connections he gained through his programme.
What was your biggest challenge during the programme?
The biggest challenge I faced was adapting to the diverse and fast-paced nature of international business. The coursework was comprehensive and demanding, requiring a strong grasp of various disciplines such as finance, economics, and data analytics, alongside mastering multiple languages.
How did that challenge make you feel?
Initially, it was quite overwhelming. Balancing the academic workload with the need to constantly improve my language skills and understanding of different business cultures made me feel stretched. However, this challenge also made me more resilient and improved my time management and problem-solving skills.
What changed after completing the course?
After completing the course, I felt more confident and equipped to handle complex business scenarios. The knowledge and skills gained from the coursework significantly benefited me during my internships, where I could apply theoretical concepts to real-world situations effectively.
Can you share specific results or stories?
One of the standout experiences was my internship at Autodesk, where I generated new business leads across multiple European markets and contributed to a marketing campaign that reached over 100k viewers on LinkedIn and TikTok. The coursework in data analytics and global business strategies directly helped me analyze markets effectively and tailor sales approaches to different regions. Additionally, participating in the ISCG consulting competition as Team Lead and securing second place nationally was a testament to the practical skills and teamwork I developed during my studies. Courses like “Being a Manager” and “Critical Thinking” were crucial in enhancing my leadership and problem-solving abilities, which were key to our success in the competition.
What would you say to someone considering this programme?
I would highly recommend the International Business programme at DCU to anyone aspiring to excel in the global business arena. The comprehensive curriculum, coupled with practical experiences, provides a robust foundation for a successful career. The skills and knowledge you gain are immediately applicable and highly valued in the business world.
Anything else to add?
The networking opportunities and connections I made through DCU have been incredibly valuable. Engaging with business leaders and alumni has enriched my understanding of the industry and provided ongoing support and opportunities for professional growth.
