Prof. Edel Conway receives the award of Fellowship of the Irish Academy of Management
Prof Edel Conway received the award of Fellowship of the Irish Academy of Management annual conference in UCC last weekend. She received this award in recognition of her contribution to international and national HRM research and practice and her role in growing the IAM as a council member and her input into the Irish Journal of Management as editor.
In addition to receiving the award of fellowship, Conway also won the award for Best paper (Leadership and OB track) along with Kathy Monks (Dublin City University) and Na Fu (Trinity College Dublin) for their paper entitled, “Understanding the role of leadership in voice and silence behaviours.”
Other winners from DCU included Yseult Freeney, Lisa Van Der Werff and David Collings who won Best paper (HRM track) for their paper, “I left Venus and came back to Mars: Emotional processes and Relational Shifts Post Maternity Leave.” and Kristel Miller and Maura McAdam along with their colleague Rodney Mcadam (Ulster University) also won Best paper (Innovation and Technology Management Track) for, “How can Quadruple Helix Relationships be leveraged to create and capture value within University Technology Transfer Business Models?”
Edel is an organisational psychologist with expertise in the areas of Human Resource Management and Organisational Change.
Edel’s reputation as a leading national and international scholar in the HRM field is evidenced by her successful forging of numerous international collaborations and national and international research projects. She has a strong track record in the pursuit of excellent research in world-leading and internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals. She has forged successful collaborations with leading international scholars and is Associate Editor of Human Resource Management Journal and is a member of the editorial board of Personnel Review. A strong element of Edel’s work is her ability to build strong networks and research initiatives. At a wider national level, her reputation as a leading scholar is evidenced by her engagement with practitioners via appointments to advise both civil and public-sector bodies in Ireland. Her approach to collaborating with and mentoring of junior researchers in both DCU and the Irish Academy of Management is an indication of how she views her role in academia.
Edel has demonstrated her excellent leadership skills through her long-standing service and contributions to the Irish Academy of Management. She was an IAM council member from 2004 to 2017; IAM conference chair in 2008; the Associate Editor of Irish Journal of Management between 2010 and 2012; and the Co-Editor of Irish Journal of Management from 2013 to 2016.
