“You Can Go Anywhere from Here”: A Career Journey Rooted in DCU

I graduated from Dublin City University in 2007 with a first-class honours degree in International Business and Languages, majoring in Finance and Spanish. At the time, the university’s tagline was “You can go anywhere from here.” That sentiment continues to resonate deeply as I reflect on my career journey to date—one that has taken me across continents, industries, and into leadership roles.

One pivotal moment came during my Erasmus year at the University of Seville. Immersing myself in a new culture and language opened my eyes to the endless possibilities of working internationally. It was then I knew that, at some point, I would live and work abroad.

After graduation, I built a strong foundation in Ireland, gaining invaluable experience with JPMorgan Fund Services and Matheson, one of Ireland’s leading law firms. These formative years provided a solid grounding in financial services, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance—skills that would serve me well as my career evolved.

In 2013, I seized the opportunity to move to the Cayman Islands—a leap that proved transformative both personally and professionally. It was a risk, but one underpinned by confidence in the competencies and adaptability I developed at DCU. That decision opened doors to high-level, cross-border work and ultimately paved the way for my current role as an independent director.

Today, I serve as an Independent Director at Hawksford, a governance-focused fiduciary firm in the Cayman Islands. With over 17 years of multijurisdictional experience, I focus on proactive, solutions-oriented governance for complex fund structures and financial services entities. My role involves navigating regulatory frameworks, contributing to strategic decision-making, and upholding strong corporate governance standards.

A key driver of my journey has been a zest for lifelong learning. Over the years, I’ve pursued professional development with purpose and passion. I hold the Fellow designation from the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI UK & Ireland), a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Corporate Governance, and am an Accredited Director with ICSA Canada. I also earned the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation through the Institute of Internal Auditors, and have completed further qualifications in blockchain and digital assets, reflecting my interest in the evolving landscape of financial innovation.

Having now lived in the Cayman Islands for 12 years, I’m deeply engaged in both industry and humanitarian initiatives. I serve as a Board Member of the Cayman Islands Red Cross, am a member of the Peer Advisory and Mid-Career groups with 100 Women in Finance, and remain actively involved in the financial services sector.

To those graduating or progressing through middle management, I offer this: Build strong foundations, stay curious, take smart risks, and invest in your continuous development. The global stage is open to those prepared to step onto it. DCU gave me the tools to engage confidently at that level—and it can do the same for you.
