Overview
This scholarship will cover 3 years of fees for one DCU Business School student who commenced their studies in DCU Business School in September 2023. The scholarship will be dispersed in sums of €3,000 over the course of a 3 year period to support the payment of university fees.
The primary purpose of the scholarship is to promote the concepts of job creation, entrepreneurial development and education for life, in the minds of undergraduate student entrepreneurs commencing their studies with DCU Business School.
Seamus McDermott, Liffey Trust Centre:
Seamus McDermott is a Chartered Engineer with degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering from U.C.D. He is a founder member of the Irish Institute of Industrial Engineers and was Honorary Secretary of the Institute for a number of years. He is a past Chairman of the Institute of Training and Development. He is also a member of the M.T.M. Association. He held senior management positions in Semi State and private industry prior to setting up his own business in Management Consultancy. He is the founder and Director General of the Liffey Trust. He has helped more than three hundred small businesses to be established throughout Ireland. He also lectured on management and engineering in Ireland and overseas and has developed his own property business
Entry Requirements / Eligibility
All 1st year DCU Business School students who are studying the LIFE module are eligible to apply.

How To Apply
How Entrepreneurial are You? Entrepreneurship Self-Assessment Assignment
First-year students taking the award-winning Learning Innovation for Enterprise (LIFE) module will be asked to complete a 1000-word reflective essay as part of the Own Enterprise/Entrepreneurship section of the module. Specifically, students will reflect on the following:
- The results of an entrepreneurship self-assessment questionnaire
- The activities completed as part of ‘Entrepreneur Challenge Week’ – a set of daily entrepreneurial challenges based on students’ questionnaire results
- Their own entrepreneurial abilities and how these relate to their current and future entrepreneurial career path.
*Please note students cannot be awarded more than one DCU Business School scholarship at a time.
